The Wingate Centre’s Sunshine Café welcomed a group of around 25 bikers on Saturday when they stopped off for a well-earned lunch break during their 200-mile trek across Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.
The Three Counties Trek was organised by the Cheshire branch of the British Police Motorcycle Trek Association (BPMTA), who took advantage of the café’s new Saturday opening hours to refuel the group's motorcyclists and pillion riders.
Karen Scanlon, the Wingate’s Finance Officer, has been a member of the BPMTA for around 15 years with her husband John.
Karen, who helped organise the motorbike trek, says: “It was a fantastic day. We had a mix of people taking part, including serving and retired police staff, and bikers from other services. They travelled from all over, including from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Northumberland, Manchester, Yorkshire and Milton Keynes.”
Every cafe visit supports the Wingate
As they were a large group, Karen pre-ordered their meals in advance at the Sunshine Café, which is now open Monday to Saturday at the Wingate charity’s base in Wrenbury, near Nantwich.
By choosing our café, not only did the bikers enjoy a delicious, great value meal – but every visit helps fund our charity’s work to support children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Karen says: “The food was fabulous, the service was really good and everyone was delighted. We had a choice of burger and chips, or panini or quiche with chips and salad.
“I’d recommend the Sunshine Café to anyone who is organising a biking, cycling or walking event – in fact any event. Plus, you’ll be supporting the Wingate’s amazing work to give life-changing opportunities to people with SEND.”
The BPMTA holds motorcycle treks in different locations around the British Isles four times a year. Essentially, they’re big treasure hunts where participants plot clues on Ordnance Survey maps, then visit the clues and try to find the right answer.
“They’re a lot of fun,” adds Karen, “and we get to visit some wonderful places with a lovely bunch of people.”
