Planning days out in the summer can be a challenge — especially when you’re not sure whether places will be accessible or inclusive. For families and carers of children or adults with SEND, it’s not just about finding somewhere fun,  it’s about knowing you’ll be welcomed, understood, and supported.

The good news? Across Cheshire and North Wales, there are plenty of thoughtful, accessible places to explore, where everyone can feel part of the fun and make lasting memories together.

Coastal Days with Everyone Included

There’s something timeless about a day at the seaside — and North Wales offers several beautiful, accessible beaches for just that.

At Abersoch, calm waters and gentle sands invite you to try kayaking or windsurfing, with expert support available. Over at Morfa Bychan (Black Rock Sands), you can drive your car directly onto the beach — ideal for those with mobility needs. In summer, you’ll also find beach wheelchairs and accessible toilets on site.

Benllech Beach on Anglesey features smooth paths and shallow waters, perfect for a relaxing day, while Prestatyn Central Beach offers excellent facilities and lifeguard cover — just a stone’s throw from the town.

Looking for something a little more nostalgic? Head to Rhos-on-Sea, where the charming promenade and sandy beach sit alongside the Harlequin Puppet Theatre— Britain’s oldest permanent marionette theatre, still delighting visitors of all ages.

Delicious Delights and Space to Play

What’s a summer day out without something delicious to enjoy? Whether you’re after an ice cream in the sun or a cosy café with space to relax, there’s something for everyone.

Local favourite Snugbury’s near Nantwich is set in open countryside, perfect for stretching your legs while enjoying their iconic ice cream. Or head to The Ice Cream Farm near Chester, which pairs delicious scoops with exciting play zones and SEND-friendly sessions during quieter times.

Fancy a more rural setting? Seven Sisters Farm near Knutsford and Great Budworth Ice Cream offer countryside views and a warm welcome. And if you’re staying closer to town, Betsy's X Little Dessert Shop in Crewe is a great place to unwind and enjoy a well-earned treat.

Pick-Your-Own Fun

Strawberry picking is a simple pleasure — calming, inclusive, and perfect for all ages.

Delamere Farm Shop near Northwich opens its fields every June with no need to book ahead, offering a relaxed environment with plenty of space to roam.

Kenyon Hall Farm near Warrington adds a café, play area, and special events throughout the holidays.

Near the Shropshire border, Bearstone Fruit Farm is another lovely spot — just check their social media to see what’s in season. And over near Wrexham, Bellis Brothers Farm Shop combines fruit picking with a garden centre, café, and play area, making it easy to spend a full, relaxed

Confidence in the Water

Swimming is a brilliant way to cool off and build confidence and more pools than ever are recognising the importance of SEND-friendly support.

Nantwich Swimming Pool offers dedicated SEND sessions through Everybody Health & Leisure, along with free access for people with disabilities and carers via the Options Card.

Of course, no list of days out would be complete without mentioning a place close to our hearts — The Sunshine Café at The Wingate Centre in Wrenbury.

Set in the beautiful South Cheshire countryside, our café is fully accessible, relaxed, and always welcoming. Enjoy home-cooked meals, freshly baked cakes, and a proper cuppa in a space designed with inclusion in mind. And if some quiet time is needed, our sensory room is available to book in advance — perfect for a calming break away from the crowds.
