Every Little Helps

The Wingate Centre is incredibly grateful to have been chosen by the community through Tesco's Stronger Starts programme, where blue tokens are used to vote for local charities. Thanks to this support, we received £500 in funding, which will make a huge difference in the services we provide for individuals with special educational needs and disabilities.

Tesco later visited our centre to capture the amazing work we do, and we want to extend a sincere thank you both to the community for choosing us and to Tesco for including us in this impactful program. Your support truly makes a difference!

The Wingate Centre will be at the Nantwich Food Festival on Friday, 30th August! We'll be sharing information about our community groups, more about our charity, and how you can get involved—whether it's by supporting our work or simply making a purchase at the Sunshine Café.

Whether you're interested in learning about our inclusive programmes, supporting our mission, or just want to say hello, we'd love to see you. Come down and check us out in the town square—we look forward to seeing you!

The Marvellous People at Morrisons

We would like to thank The Morrisons Foundation for awarding us a grant.   This is the first time a charity within the Morrisons Nantwich area has been awarded a grant from The Morrisons Foundation.

The cheque handover, from the Community Champion for Morrisons Nantwich, was celebrated with the presence of Eddisbury MP Edward Timpson, our Chair and CEO.

Thanks to this funding, we were able to purchase two specially adapted clinical positioning chairs, which support individuals with physical challenges such as cerebral palsy to use assisted bikes. These bikes provide cycling opportunities for individuals of all abilities, promoting independence and the benefits of exercise. Additionally, the assisted bike enables users to work towards therapy goals in a shorter amount of time. By supporting leg movement and driving momentum, the bike accommodates wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. If you would like to book a session for assisted bikes, please give us a call

With thanks to our supporters in 2023

We extend our best wishes to Geoff Parson upon his retirement, who served as a dedicated Chairman and trustee for many years, contributing significantly to the growth and success of our charity. His leadership and commitment have left a lasting impact.

Additionally, our Vice President Bjarne Rieber, a key supporter and advocate, has stepped down. His contributions, especially to the development and building of the Rieber recreational hall, ensured the expansion of our  provision for residentials holidays, while providing additional space for day activities.

We also express our appreciation to the staff members who have left during the year. Their hard work and dedication have been instrumental in shaping the positive impact The Wingate Centre has had on the wider community.

Thanks to all the amazing supporters, fundraisers, volunteers, and businesses who have given their time to the charity and have helped to ensure that the incredible work we do here at The Centre continues.

Springfield School, recently organised a Social Action Day at The Wingate Centre as part of their National Citizen Service (NCS). Demonstrating their commitment to inclusivity and community service, students engaged in outdoor maintenance, including jet washing and leaf blowing.

Inside the Sunshine Cafe, students helped in the kitchen, preparing and serving Christmas meals to customers, while a third group sold greeting cards and raffle tickets in the foyer.  All the day activities were documented by 2 students; this small but efficient marketing team took some great shots of the day and posted them on LinkedIn before returning to Springfield school.

This special day exemplifies the power of collective action and reinforces the belief in equal opportunities for a better quality of life, regardless of ability.

Lyceum Lites finishes it's first year with a truly festive performances

The Lyceum LITES’ Autumn term came to an end on Monday 20th November with a sharing performance showcased the company’s favourite stories at Christmas,  through dance, movement, music, and drama and was the culmination of  8 weeks development and rehearsals, and a year’s worth of creative growth and confidence through performance experience.  The performance truly  embraced  the performer’s individualism and expressed the true nature of Inclusive Theatre.   Here’s to 2024 and seeing the Lyceum LITES going from strength to strength.

If you are interested in drama and the theatre and would like to learn more, or become a member of the Lyceum Lites, please get in contact with Ian at the Wingate Centre.

Our new 10 week term beings Monday 8th January from 10.30am

We would like to express our thanks to the incredible generosity shown by The Rausing Trust towards The Wingate Centre.

The Julia & Hans Rausing Trust

Rausings-.jpg

As part of their philanthropy work, Julia and Hans Rausing have donated £2.5 million to charities based across Cheshire, which includes The Wingate Centre.  Donations have been made to 19 charities providing support across youth care, education, disability, welfare and restoration.

With 3 years of set donations  to help towards our immense running costs, we would like to show our  gratitude for this incredibly generous donation to our small charity supporting individuals with SEND. The Rausing Trust's contribution plays a vital role in enabling us to continue providing a wide range of day activities, including rebound therapy,  arts and crafts, discos, and so much more, and helps us to continue to deliver a subsidised Residential/Holiday services for SEND Schools and Groups. Their kindness directly impacts the lives of the visitors that use our services , and we are truly grateful for The Julia & Hans Rausing Trust's commitment to making a difference.

We were lucky to have our Vice President Bryony Page visit The Wingate Centre at the end of October.  Filming for Persimmon Homes and Team GP Bryony spoke to our young inspiring athletes, and volunteers.  As a World Champion gold medallist and the first British female gymnast in any gymnastic discipline to win medals across two or more Games, Bryony had a lot of advice for our young athletes, who I’m sure will be supporting her progress at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Phomes.jpg
For the lead up to Paris 2024, Persimmon Homes has partnered with Team GB athletes, celebrating the importance of home, and understanding the strong connection between the places where we put down roots, and the things we can go on to achieve.  Through this partnership The Wingate Centre received a donation of £1000 to support our community, which will help support our users achieving their full potential.

Thank you for your generosity and kindness, and good luck Bryony at Paris 2024

To Our Action Heroes

Skydiving and Flying High

Our fundraising Skydive went ahead for 3 of our jumpers on Saturday 14th of October, at Tilstock Skydiving Centre. Emma, Nikita and Mark were all fantastic and with the support of family and friends and a break in the drizzle, were able to take the plunge after weeks of fundraising. We are extremely proud of them for pushing themselves to their limits, just like our clients do every day! You are all superstars!!

We raised around £1,000 and had 15 teams of fantastic quizzers. David, with the help of his wife Pam had written a great quiz as always and it was enjoyed by all.

Thank you for supporting the Centre at our autumn 2023 Quiz night
